Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career working as a TV and radio reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed in Washington DC. In Washington, she was appointed general reporter by NBC News two year later. Beginning in 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named chief congressional reporter. Then, in 1992 she was appointed Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist as well as anchor of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel in 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for journalism excellence, including the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell reported on for the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable stories over time, including budget reform, tax reform as well as an investigation into the Iran Contra saga. She travelled extensively together with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
